Introduction
Definition of Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence, or AI, in the past recent years, has become more and more famous with various economic, cultural, and philosophical implications (Akl and Salay 6). As people have heard the word “AI,” a number of them are still not very familiar with the concept. What is AI? AI is using computer systems to create intelligent systems (Akl and Salay 6). Modeling by AI to predict something in one professional is a rather popular method no matter in industrial or in people’s daily life.
According to Arend Hintze, an assistant of professor of integrative biology and computer science and engineering at Michigan State University, writing in the “Understanding the Four Types of Artificial Intelligence” that AI can be categorized into four types:
Type 1
Reactive machines. It is defined as the AI systems which do not have memory but have a specific task. These systems cannot use past experience to predict the future.
Type 2
Limited memory. It is defined as the AI systems which have memory, so they can use the past experience to explore the future. A famous example is a self-driving car.
Type 3
Theory of mind. This term can be applied to AI because it means that the system can have the social intelligence to understand emotions. At this level, the AI system can serve as integral members of human teams.
Type 4
Self-awareness. This AI system can have self-awareness. However, this AI system does not exist yet ( qtd. in Rouse).
The Application of AI
Various applications of AI exist. According to Margaret Rouse, the specific application of AI can be identified as four categories: expert systems, natural language processing, speech recognition, and machine vision (Rouse).
Some Statistical Data about AI
As that amazing science fiction becomes reality, AI helps the world create a new era to embrace more fantastic applications. AI yields tremendous success in a variety of fields: healthcare, manufacturing, and education (G., “35+ AI Statistics & 88 Facts About The AI Revolution In 2020”).
